Vinay Junek (Princeton Posse), Kaleb Percival (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) and Connor Stojan (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) have been selected the Hudl Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 17/24.
Junek – Top Forward – The Yorkton, Sask., product had three goals and three assists and was plus-5 in four games to help the Posse be tied at three with the North Okanagan Knights in their series. In Game 3, Junek had two goals, the second into an empty net, giving the Posse a 4-0 win. In Game 4, Junek recorded a goal and an assist to tie the game, 2-2 in a 4-3 OT win. In Game 5, Junek had two assists, including on the insurance goal of their 4-0 win. Junek, who has been selected as a Young Guns, is fourth among KIJHL Teck Cup points leads with 15 in 12 games.
Percival – Top Defenceman – The Nelson product netted a winning goal and collected three assists, along with a plus-3 rating, to help the Nitehawks defeat the Grand Forks Border Bruins in six games. Percival scored the winner and assisted on their third goal in a 3-0 win in Game 3. In Game 5, he assisted on Tim Josza’s winner in a 3-0 final and the captain set up Adam Redding for the winning goal to clinch the series in Game 6. Percival leads all KIJHL defencemen in points with 10 in 10 games. This is the second time Percival has been chosen as the KIJHL’s Top Defenceman. He was also named the Top Defenceman for October.
Stojan – Top Goalie – The Grande Prairie, Alta product earned three wins in four games, helping the Nitehawks win their Teck Cup series against the Border Bruins to repeat at Neil Murdoch division champions. Stojan saved 124 of 128 shots for a 1.00 goals against average and .969 save percentage. Stojan had two shutouts in the series – the first a 29-save effort and the other 30. Stojan is 8-2-0 in the Teck Cup playoffs with a 1.36 GAA and a .952 SP. It’s the second straight week Stojan has been named the Top Goalie and the third time this season. He’s also been named Top Goalie for January.
