Luke Chakrabarti (Creston Valley Thunder Cats), Lohgan Nimmo (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) and Connor Stojan (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) have been selected as the Hudl Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Month for January.
Chakrabarti – Top Forward – The Surrey product scored six goals and racked up 13 assists in nine games for the Thunder Cats. He had four multi-point performances starting with a three-point night against the Fernie Ghostriders in a 4-3 overtime win on Jan. 5. He had a four assist effort against the Osoyoos Coyotes in a 6-5 overtime loss on Jan. 12, then on Jan. 19 he scored a hat-trick against the Kimberley Dynamiters in a 5-2 win. His final big multi-point performance saw him collect five assists against the Nelson Leafs in a 6-5 overtime win on Jan. 26. Chakrabarti is second in the KIJHL in points with 63 in 40 games and leads the league with 39 assists.
Nimmo – Top Defenceman – The Mayerthorpe, Alta. product scored five goals and added seven assists in eight games to help the Nitehawks go undefeated during the month. Nimmo collected two assists, including on the winning goal, against the Revelstoke Grizzlies in a 5-2 victory on Jan. 6. Against the Spokane Braves on Jan. 9, Nimmo scored four goals, including the first goals, and added an assist in a 14-1 win. And against the Sicamous Eagles on Jan. 28, Nimmo assisted on the first goal in their 4-1 win over the Eagles. In 12 games, Nimmo has 17 points for a 1.42 points per game average.
Stojan – Top Goalie – The Grande Prairie, Alta. product won all six of his starts for the Nitehawks stopping 160/173 shots for a .925 save percentage and a 2.17 goals against average. Stojan had a 31-save effort against the Columbia Valley Rockies in a 5-1 win on Jan. 19, and a 36-save performance against the Grand Forks Border Bruins in a 7-5 victory on Jan. 26. He finished the month with a 24-save effort against the Sicamous Eagles in a 4-1 win on Jan. 28. In 30 games, Stojan has 21 wins, to lead the league, with a 2.36 GAA (sixth best) and a .926 SP (fifth best).
