Lucas Sadownyk of the Princeton Posse has signed to play for the University of Drury Panthers in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Sadownyk, 20, recorded 31 points in 39 regular season games, and added 13 in 15 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games. The St. Albert, Alta. product is excited about his next chapter as he joins familiar KIJHL players, who are coached by Jeremy Law, an Osoyoos Heat alum and son of Osoyoos Coyotes head coach Ken Law.
“Coach Law seems like a great coach and runs a great program, and I cannot wait to get down there and earn an opportunity to compete as a Panther,” says Sadownyk.
The Panthers get a defenceman with improved hockey IQ, and greater poise and patience with the puck. Sadownyk was able to slow the play down when necessary and then play with quick pace and deception.
“Working the powerplay and being able to make guys miss was an area of focus for me and I felt by the end of the year I was dialed in on that,” says Sadownyk. “My time with the Posse really helped me grow as a person and player. I became more mature on and off the ice and that has really helped me grow in areas necessary to play college hockey. I wasn’t handed opportunities from day one, but once I found my way to earn opportunity and ice time, the coaches really gave us confidence to make plays, not fear of making mistakes.”
“For Lucas to commit to a high profile program in Drury is an amazing accomplishment,” says former Posse head coach-general manager Mark Readman. “Lucas has been a player that has really thrived in our program and has been a massive contributor to our success. Without Lucas, we do not take these steps as an organization and win back to back President’s Cups. He has become one of the strongest and steadiest defencemen in this league and for him to now know his next steps by locking up this commitment is wonderful and we could not be more happy for him.”
