Young Guns: Matthew Dovichak

Matthew Dovichak of the Grand Forks Border Bruins won two of three games and is this week’s Young Guns, presented by the Next Shift Network.

The Strathmore, Alberta product helped the Border Bruins collect five of six points as he stopped 86 of 93 shots in three games and earned wins against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks and Nelson Leafs to finish with a 2.31 goals against average and .925 save percentage. Border Bruins head coach-GM David Hnatiuk said Dovichak has done great in stepping in for starter Ethan Shebansky who returns to the lineup Nov. 24.

“He obviously rose to the occasion and played great against Castlegar, got the win against Beaver Valley on Friday night and Saturday night against Nelson,” said Hnatiuk. “Matthew has done a fantastic job of stepping into the net and helping us get some very important victories.”

For the season, Dovichak is 5-0 and has played in nine games and has a 3.03 GAA and a .909 SP. His first career KIJHL victory came against Spokane stopping 24 of 28 shots in an 11-4 win.
