Gabe Bergeron of the Sicamous Eagles is this week’s Young Guns, presented by the Next Shift Network, as he saved 54 of 56 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Revelstoke Grizzlies.
Bergeron had a 2.05 goals against average with a .964 save percentage while playing in front of family who came to watch at the Revelstoke Forum in a packed crowd of 950.
“It was my first time playing in the Revelstoke rink, I was definitely looking forward to it all season,” said Bergeron. “I really wanted to try and get the win and experience that crazy atmosphere the rink is famous for.
“I wanted to put on my best performance of the year and I think that’s exactly what I ended up doing,” he continued. “It was a pretty special experience.”
The Calgary product felt his athleticism came out against a physical Grizzlies team.
“They always crash the net hard. I was really reaching, even sprawling at times just to keep the puck out of the net. I like to think I did a pretty good job. It was a close game.”
Bergeron finished the regular season with a record of 16-7-0 in 24 games with a 2.65 GAA and a .903 SP.
