Top Goaltender: Jozef Kuchaslo

This week the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League announces its overall award winners in seven categories – Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player and Coach of the Year.

Next is Top Goaltender – Jozef Kuchaslo from the Revelstoke Grizzlies. It’s back-to-back wins for the Mission product. Kuchaslo went 19-8-0 in 28 games with his 19 wins being second best in the league. He played 1,681 minutes and had the second best goals against average at 1.96, and the third best SP at .932.

In scoring areas, Kuchaslo has a SP of 87 per cent, 75 on breakaways and he averaged 2.7 brilliant saves per game.

Grizzlies general manager Ryan Parent says Kuchaslo is such a patient goalie who is technically sound.

“He’s very well deserving of the award and we are really proud of Joe,” says Parent. “We wouldn’t be where we are (Teck Cup Finals) without Joe. He is a big part of our club and I love the way Joe has matured over the past few years. He’s not only matured his game, but has become a more mature young man.”

His improvement this season is more about continued growth during his Grizzlies tenure.

“Joe was very strong last year,” says Parent.
