Jordan Lario (Golden Rockets), Grady Sterling-Ponech (Princeton Posse) and Owen Albers (Revelstoke Grizzlies) have been named the Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 2.
Lario – Top Forward – The Cranbrook product scored four goals and had three assists for seven points in two games. In the Rockets’ 6-1 win over North Okanagan, Lario scored two short-handed goals, one being the winner and added two assists. Then in the Rockets’ 4-3 shootout win against Summerland, he had two goals and an assist. On the season, Lario now has four goals and eight points in four games.
Sterling-Ponech – Top Defenceman – The Lethbridge, Alberta product had four assists in two games for the Posse, helping them earn two wins. The rookie assisted on both winning goals against the 100 Mile House Wranglers and Fernie Ghostriders. His assist on Princeton’s 3-0 goal against the Wranglers was his first career junior hockey point.
Albers – Top Goalie – The Calgary product earned his first KIJHL shutout in a 1-0 victory against the Kamloops Storm with a 38-save performance. Albers earned his second win with the Grizzlies after coming over in a trade from Beaver Valley. For the season, he has a 1.92 goals against average with a .935 save percentage.
