KIJHL alumni lead VIU Mariners to BCIHL title

The Vancouver Island University Mariners won their first British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey Championship on Sunday.

The Mariners defeated the UVic Vikes 6-2 in Logan Lake, where the championship was hosted. The Mariners were the BCIHL’s top regular season team winning 17 of their 20 games. The Mariners played the Vikes twice – winning the first game 4-3 to advance to the BCIHL Championship game.

 

 

The Mariners feature six Kootenay International Junior Hockey League alumni. Three of the alumni played for the Kimberley Dynamiters (Brock Palmer/Noah Danforth/Austin Daniels), the Revelstoke Grizzlies had two with Jordan Rea and Sebastian Archambault, who also played for the Sicamous Eagles and Tyson Lautard with the Nelson Leafs.

Lautard led KIJHL alumni with a goal and an assist in two games. Archambault, Palmer and Rea each had an assist.

The Vikes roster also featured KIJHL alumni Aidan Morrison (100 Mile House Wranglers), Jakob Drapeau (Kamloops Storm) and Linden Deugau (Princeton Posse).
