Applications open for KIJHL Scholarships & Bursaries

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is now accepting league scholarship and bursary applications for the 2023/24 season. The application deadline is March 15, 2024.

The KIJHL oversees the selection of two scholarships, the Jaxon Joseph Memorial Scholarship and the Grant Sheridan Memorial Scholarship, as well as a dozen bursaries that are awarded annually.

The Jaxon Joseph Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of the former Beaver Valley Nitehawks forward who was one of 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos killed in a tragic bus crash on April 6, 2018. One $2500 scholarship is  awarded annually to an individual who shares Jaxon’s athletic and academic aspirations. Meanwhile, the Grant Sheridan Memorial Scholarship was established by the MindRight Society for Athletes to help preserve the memory of the longtime Kelowna Chiefs owner and general manager who passed away suddenly in 2019 at the age of 47. One $1500 is awarded annually to a registered KIJHL player who best combines the qualities of hockey commitment, academic achievement and community involvement that were valued so deeply by Grant.

Additionally, current KIJHL players and game officials are eligible to apply for one of 12 bursaries valued at $1000 each. Candidates must complete a KIJHL Bursary Application Package and return their application to the League Office prior to the submission deadline on March 15, 2024. One application package will be considered for all three scholarship and bursary awards.
