Young Guns: Brandon Gray

Brandon Gray of the Grand Forks Border Bruins is this week’s Young Guns selection after posting two goals and one assist over four games during the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs.

The Okotoks, Alta., native played with high-energy, and a physical edge — charging in on the forecheck, finishing hits, and breaking up plays to generate turnovers. His pressure-heavy game opened up scoring chances for both himself and his linemates.

“It definitely helps playing with Levi Astill and Tyler Burke. Defenders are so focused on them that I was able to find soft ice and create chances,” said Gray. “If I keep hitting and applying pressure, those opportunities are going to keep coming.”

Gray also made an impact on special teams, scoring a key shorthanded goal in the third period to secure a 5–2 win in Game 2.

“That felt really good, especially at that point in the game,” said Gray. “You never really go out on the PK expecting to score, but when it happens, it’s a great feeling.”
