Nash Wassing, Russell Kosec and Eric Kahl – all Grand Forks Border Bruins – have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 30/25.
Wassing – Top Forward – The Strathmore, Alta., native played a key role in the Border Bruins taking a 2-0 series lead over the Kimberley Dynamiters with five goals and an assist. He played an average of 18:52 a game and was plus three. The 6-4, 200-pound forward scored a hat-trick in their 6-4 Game 1 win on March 28. Then in a 6-0 win in Game 2, he scored twice, including the winner and collected an assist. Wassing is second in KIJHL Teck Cup playoff scoring with 15 points in 10 games, including nine goals.
Kosec – Top Defenceman – The Kelowna native had a goal and six assists for the Border Bruins in two games. He played an average of 21:10 a game and was plus three. In their 6-4 Game 1 win over the Dynamiters, Kosec collected three assists. In a 6-0 Game 2 win, Kosec had a goal and three assists, including on the winning goal. The 6-1, 185-pound blueliner leads all KIJHL defencemen with 14 points in 10 games.
Kahl – Top Goalie – The Saskatoon, Sask., native won both his starts for the Border Bruins while stopping 50 of 54 shots against the Dynamiters for a 2.00 goals against average and .926 save percentage. In their 6-4 Game 1 win, Kahl saved 28 of 32 shots. In a 6-0 Game 2 win, he posted a 22-save shutout with 11 second-period saves. Kahl is 6-0 in the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs with a 2.18 GAA and a .926 SP.
