Thunder Cats alumnus Livingstone plays for Team Canada

Creston Valley Thunder Cats alumnus Jake Livingstone (2014–17) added an international chapter to his hockey career last month, representing Canada at the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.

Livingstone appeared in all three games for Team Canada at the prestigious tournament. Canada opened with a 3–2 win over the U.S. College Selects before falling to HC Davos and HC Sparta Prague, with the quarter-final loss ending its tournament run.

“It was cool. As a kid, you always want the chance to represent Canada. The Spengler is a little different — it’s not the Olympics or anything — but it’s still a really cool experience,” says Livingstone. “The country, town and fans were great. Having my family there at Christmastime made it even better. I wish we would’ve done better, but it was still a great experience.”

The 26-year-old defenceman has recorded a goal and five points in 17 games with the Charlotte Checkers this season and is plus-1.

A Creston, B.C. native, Livingstone has appeared in 144 AHL games, scoring 10 goals and adding 28 assists. Prior to joining the Checkers, he spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals and also appeared in five games with the Nashville Predators.

Livingstone played three years at Minnesota State University Mankato, and was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Year in 2022-23.
