The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Oct. 19.
Forwards:
Justice Loewen was a force for the Princeton Posse against the Columbia Valley Rockies, scoring four goals and adding an assist in a 7-4 win on Oct. 17. The next night, he scored the opener and assisted on the final goal in a 3-0 win over Golden. He finished the week +6.
Lynden Gorman continued his strong play for the Quesnel River Rush, recording four goals—including the winner—in a 4-3 victory over the Kelowna Chiefs on Oct. 17. It was his second four-goal game of the season. He added the lone goal in a 5-1 loss to Kamloops on Oct. 19 and now leads the KIJHL with 11 goals in 11 games.
Hayden Evans helped lead the Fernie Ghostriders to a pair of wins. He picked up an assist in a 5-3 victory over Nelson, then recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 5-1 win against Grand Forks. He was +4 over the two games.
Defence:
Owen Bambrick sparked Creston Valley’s comeback from a 4-3 deficit against Golden, scoring a power-play goal and adding three assists—including on the winner—in a 7-4 victory. He finished the night with six points and was +3.
Sam Dal Cin led the Kelowna Chiefs offensively in an 8-3 win over Sicamous, scoring his second goal of the season and setting up the winner. He added two more assists for a four-point effort and was +1.
Goaltender:
Leo den Besten earned two wins for Fernie, turning aside 70 of 74 shots for a 2.00 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage. The Devon Xtreme (AJHL) signee made 31 saves in a 5-3 win over Nelson, including all 18 in the first period. Then stopped 39 of 40 shots in a 5-1 win over Grand Forks, shutting the door with 32 saves over the final two periods.
