KIJHL alumni help ACHA Jimmies win conference

The  eighth-ranked University of Jamestown Jimmies men’s hockey team, which features 16 KIJHL alumni, defeated No. 13 Illinois State University 7-1 Sunday afternoon to win the Midwest College Hockey conference championship. Greg Susinski (Fernie Ghostriders) was named the MCH tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Creston Valley Thunder Cats alumnus Logan Berggren had the Jimmies’ first and last goal, as well as setting up another. Netting the winner was Kamloops Storm alum Alek Erichuk, with his sixth of the season. He also added an assist.

Other KIJHL alumni collecting points were Reid Wilson (Castlegar/Nelson) and Jordon Kromm (Fernie). The shots were 54-17 in favour of Jamestown. Brandon Weare (Revelstoke) made 16 saves in goal to earn his 18th win in 23 games. Andrew Clark led with three assists. Berggren had two goals and an assist.

The Jimmies will play a home-and-home series against Minot State, with UJ hosting on March 8 at 7 p.m. The ACHA D1 national tournament begins March 16 in Boston, Mass.

Wilson has eight goals and 31 points in 28 games, ranking him fourth on the Jimmies in points. Berggren has 11 goals and 27 points in 29 games; Susinski has 11 goals and 27 points in 29 games to lead all Jimmies blueliners in points, Andrew Clark has five goals and 25 points in 29 games and Kromm has 10 goals and 18 points in 26 games.
