Carter Bettenson of the Revelstoke Grizzlies has committed to play for the Okanagan Lakers in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League.
Bettensen led the Grizzlies with 45 points in 43 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League regular season games, then put up 14 points in 14 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games. Bettenson played a big part in the Grizzlies capturing the B.C. Hockey Junior B championship Cyclone Taylor Cup. He was named the MVP on home ice after he scored the winning goal and had five goals and six points in four games.
Grizzlies Head Coach-GM Ryan Parent says they are proud of Bettenson’s success with the organization.
“In three years his maturity culminated with the Cyclone Taylor provincial championship,” said Parent. “Carter was a key contributor and a strong leader.”
In 83 career KIJHL regular season games, Bettenson registered 32 goals, 35 assists for 67 points and added 27 points in 33 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games. Last season Bettenson helped the Grizzlies win the KIJHL Teck Cup, then earn a bronze medal in the 2022 Cyclone Taylor Cup in Delta.
His time in Revelstoke was special and credited the Grizzlies coaching staff, led by Parent, with his development and the opportunities he earned. He said the countless hours working with him to help him improve as a hockey player led to joining the Lakers.
“As a 20-year-old, I improved my goal scoring ability and I was relied on more as an older player,” said Bettenson. “I found a way to shift from a playmaker to a player that could do both.”
Bettenson is excited about his opportunity to continue playing hockey while pursuing a degree with the Lakers.
