Kaelen Swanson of the Williams Lake Mustangs is this week’s Young Guns selection after he scored three goals and added three assists in three games.
Swanson enjoyed a two-goal, one assist performance against the Kamloops Storm, then followed that with a goal and an assist against the Nelson Leafs. In their third and final game of the week, he had an assist against the Grand Forks Border Bruins. Swanson liked how he used his speed in those games.
“I was pretty good at going wide on the front, and getting the puck to the net,” said Swanson, who attended the main camp for the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds to start the season.
As the 5-10, 162-pound forward produces, his confidence grows and he tries different plays. The Williams Lake product says the league has a higher pace and is physical because of the older players.
“It’s a good thing for me to get used to that,” he said. “I’m trying to play a 200-foot game, while getting opportunities to produce for my team.”
Swanson has three goals and six assists for nine points, which has him tied for the team lead in points.
