Thunder Cats alum Gagnon signs with HC Caen

Marc-Antoine Gagnon, who played for the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in 2015-16, has signed to play for Drakkars De Caen in France’s top division.

Drakkars added Gagnon to strengthen its defence, bringing in the 24-year-old Canadian right-hander after a season in Division 2 with Villard-de-Lans and in Slovakia with HK Martin after playing Division 1 with Montpellier the previous year.

“I’m very happy to join the Drakkars next season,” said Gagnon. “I look forward to meeting you and setting fire to the ice rink with you.”

With Villard-de-Lans, Gagnon put up 22 points in 15 games. After watching several matches and doing his due diligence, Drakkers coach learned a lot about his new player.

“I saw that he was superior to the others in Division 2 and I think his level will progress in D1,”says Drakkars coach Julien Guimard. “Pierre-Antoine Simonneau (Villard coach) told me a lot of good, both in terms of work ethic and mobility on the ice. He is an offensive defender capable of being rigorous, who wants to prove his full potential.”

Gagnon played in 34 games for the Thunder Cats, collecting 11 points and added two points in eight playoff games. Gagnon also played two seasons in USports with Laurentian University before heading overseas to play in France and Slovakia.
