The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has named Chase Heat forward Shiva Singh its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Dec. 14.
Singh had two goals and five points in their 9-8 overtime win over the Golden Rockets.
“I was on top of my game — getting pucks out, burying my chances, and making good plays happen,” says Singh. “I was getting my body on the puck, winning corner battles and getting to the net. I beat their defencemen to pucks.”
The Surrey native said confidence has been a key factor in his play, noting that scoring “gives you that extra boost.”
Singh added that he likes going into games “playing with an edge and believing I can be the best player on the ice. That gives me more jump and energy.”
This is the second time that Singh has been named the KIJHL’s Rookie of the Week, having previously earned the honour in Week 2. Singh has 21 points in 20 games, which ranks 15th among KIJHL rookies and leads the Heat.
