This week, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is celebrating its Off-Ice Award winners in the categories of Scholastic Player of the Year, Community Player of the Year, Broadcaster of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.
Today, the KIJHL is proud to announce that Aydan Wang of the 100 Mile House Wranglers has been named the Scholastic Player of the Year.
Wranglers head coach and general manager Levi Stuart believes there’s no better choice, given what Wang, 17, has already accomplished—and continues to do.
“Aydan is already accepted into Penn State and is working for the University of Winnipeg doing DNA labs,” said Stuart. “He’s an absolute genius and constantly goes above and beyond when it comes to both secondary and post-secondary academics.”
A graduate of St. George’s School in Vancouver, Wang began taking Grade 12 courses during the 2022–23 academic year and completed his final year in 2024 with straight As and an impressive 95.33 per cent average. Through the University of Manitoba, he also contributed to a research paper titled Exploring the Effects of Mutation and Splicing Regulation in Human Genetic Diseases.
