The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has announced Gavyn Schaufele of the Quesnel River Rush as its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 16.
In two games, the Medicine Hat, Alta., native scored five goals and six points, and was +3 while playing an average of 23:56 – which included specialty teams time. Schaufele had a hat-trick against the 100 Mile House Wranglers, then scored the shootout winner in a 5-4 final. He then had two goals and three points in an 8-5 loss to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats.
“It was good that I was able to find the back of the net a few times there last weekend,” says Schaufele, a former Seattle Thunderbirds draft pick in 2023. “The big factors that really helped was being able to play with Gage Parrell and Isaiah Bagri. We work well together. We all create space for each other and make plays off one another. It’s been good.”
In 17 regular season games, the 5-11, 160-pound forward has 11 goals and 20 points, which is sixth among all KIJHL rookies.
