Rebels’ Grimsdale jacked up to be a Lumberjack

Tyren Grimsdale spent a season with the Castlegar Rebels, but it was memorable.

“It is an amazing community with lots of support for the hockey team. I had a great coach, teammates and billet family,” says Grimsdale, who recently signed with the Hearst Lumberjacks in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). “Having access to the ice everyday along with the support of my coach (Carter Duffin) really helped improve my game and give me the opportunity to play at the next level.”

The Lyalta, Alta. Product put up 12 goals and 25 points in 41 KIJHL regular season games. He added two assists in two playoff games. Grimsdale was named the KIJHL’s second Player of the Week in late September.

The KIJHL gave Grimsdale a platform to develop his skills and become a better player. It also provided him an opportunity to make the jump to junior A. He’s excited to play at that level and join the Lumberjacks, which was founded in 2017 and won an NOJHL championship in 2018-19. That season they also won the East Division championship, claiming the Garry Hall Memorial Trophy.

He looks forward to continuing his development with a program that has advanced players to National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III programs, U Sports and the Ontario Hockey League.

“The Hearst Lumberjacks are an amazing organization with a great reputation of developing players to move on to the NCAA,” he says.
