North Okanagan Knights defenceman Adam Bourgeois has signed to play with the BCHL’s Cowichan Valley Capitals for the 2023-24 season.
In his first season in the KIJHL, Bourgeois had four goals and 20 points in 24 regular season games. The 5-11, 169-pound blueliner added three goals and nine points in nine KIJHL playoff games. Bourgeois got his first KIJHL experience last season in one game as an affiliate player with the Summerland Steam.
“I’m very excited for my commitment with the Capitals. I spent a lot of time this year getting to know their program, team, and staff and I couldn’t be more excited to join such a great organization,” said Bourgeois. “None of this would’ve been possible without my coaches and teammates with the Knights. Head Coach Liam McOnie, Josh Evans (Assistant Coach & Assistant GM), and Kaden Black (Assistant Coach) run a very professional program and push each individual to their full potential and strive to move guys forward. Thank you everyone who pushed me and believed in me this season.”
McOnie said Bourgeois was an excellent addition to their hockey club this season.
“He was a dynamic defenceman and added swagger and poise to our backend. Adam also helped boost morale in the dressing room,” said McOnie. “He knew a lot of our guys from previous seasons and he helped the room stay loose, but focused and driven. We are incredibly proud of Adam and his resilience in earning another opportunity to play in the BCHL and further his hockey career.”
This season, the Fort St. John product played 11 games as an affiliate in the BCHL. His first was with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and then 10 with the Capitals, in which he registered his first BCHL point, an assist on March 17 against Powell River. He earned another assist on March 26. In 2021-22, Bourgeois played one game with the West Kelowna Warriors and 18 with the Vernon Vipers. Overall, Bourgeois has played in 30 BCHL games.
