Sicamous Eagles Kamloops Storm
Sicamous edges Kamloops in Game 7 (Sicamous win series 4-3)

Aiden Kalin scored twice, his fourth and fifth of the Teck Cup championships, to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 Game 7 victory over the Storm. Kalin opened the scoring with just over three minutes left in the first period and his winner was scored at the midway mark of the second. Gage Reimer stopped 35 of 36 shots, his only goal allowed to Storm affiliate Lucas Schmid of Merritt, who played this season with the Thompson Blazers U18AAA program. Storm goalie Colton Phillips-Watts faced just 12 shots, seven in the first period. The Eagles will now play the Revelstoke Grizzlies in the Doug Birks Division Final, starting on Friday. The Storm played in front of a crowd of 980 for their final home game.

Columbia Valley Rockies Fernie Ghostriders
Haggerty scores twice as Fernie defeats Columbia Valley (Fernie wins series 4-2)

Scott Sinclair’s second goal of the Teck Cup championships gave the Ghostriders a 2-0 lead as they defeated the Rockies 5-1 to advance to the Eddie Mountain Division Final. Taylor Haggerty led the Ghostriders with two goals and Liam Fitzgerald had two assists. Goalie Aiden Kruhlak stopped 35 of 36 shots and in six games, Krulak had a 2.44 goals against average and .932 save percentage. The Ghostriders will now face the Kimberley Dynamiters.

Kamloops Storm Sicamous Eagles
Kamloops wins to force Game 7 versus Sicamous (Series tied 3-3)

With just over two minutes remaining in the second period, Jake Phillips-Watts’ second goal stood as the winner in a 3-2 final against the Eagles. Branden Toye led the Storm with a goal and an assist. Storm goalie Colton Phillips-Watts stopped 27 of 29 shots, including 14 in the third period. Scoring for the Eagles was Riley Teulon with his third and Daniel Kroon his fourth.

Nelson Leafs Beaver Valley Nitehawks
Stojan makes 35 saves as Beaver Valley defeats Nelson (Beaver Valley wins series 4-2)

Eithan Grishin scored the winner and added an assist as the Nitehawks defeated the Leafs 6-3 to advance to the Neil Murdoch Division Final against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. Boris Hristov opened the scoring with his fifth of the playoffs and added an assist to tie the game at two. Also scoring for the Nitehawks was Timothy Jozsa, Gavin Tritt and Ethan Smyth with two empty netters. Owen McFarlane, Ryan Quast and Carsyn Crawford scored for the Leafs. In six games, Stojan had four wins with a 2.45 GAA and a .931 SP.

Fleet earns shutout as Kimberley defeats Golden (Kimberley wins series 4-1)

Dynamiters goalie Matt Fleet had a 29-save shutout in a 4-0 victory against the Rockets to win the series and advance to the Eddie Mountain Division Final. Following a scoreless first period, Kade Leskosky’s third goal gave the Dynamiters a 1-0 lead. Kasey Miller had two assists for the Dynamiters, and Cash Regan had two goals, including one into an empty net. Levi Hall made 45 saves for the Rockets.

Fernie Ghostriders Columbia Valley Rockies
Two-goal third period leads Columbia Valley past Fernie (Fernie leads series 3-2)

Kyran Gromnisky scored the winner for the Rockies in a 6-4 final against the Ghostriders to push their series to a sixth game. Anthony Domina led the Rockies with two goals and Keenan Ingram had a goal and an assist. Ewan McDevitt stopped 31 of 35 shots for the Rockies. Kort Kisinger led the Ghostriders with two goals and three points and Jarod Sigouin had a goal and an assist. Tied 4-4 after two periods, Gromnisky scored his first goal 7:35 into the third period.

Creston Valley Thunder Cats Grand Forks Border Bruins
Creston Valley wins high offence game against Grand Forks (Creston Valley wins series 4-1)

Luke Charkabarti led the Thunder Cats with four goals and two assists in an 8-5 win over the Border Bruins to win their series in five games. Chakrabarti was involved in the Thunder Cats’ first five goals to give them a 5-1 lead eight minutes into the second period. Stavros Koutsantonis scored the eventual winner with his second of the playoffs on the power-play. Parker Forrest made 35 saves on 40 shots. Cody Laybolt led the Border Bruins with three assists and Ray Warrack had two. The Border Bruins had scored two late goals in the second to close the gap to 5-3. The Thunder Cats will now play the winner between Beaver Valley and Nelson for the Neil Murdoch Division championship.

Beaver Valley Nitehawks Nelson Leafs
Nelson extends series against Beaver Valley with OT win (Beaver Valley leads 3-2)

Owen McFarlane’s first goal of the playoffs was a big one as he helped the Leafs avoid elimination against the Nitehawks with a 3-2 overtime win. The previous four goals came in the second period and Bennett Anklewich assisted on all Leafs goals. Gavin Tritt and Nathan Dominici scored for the Nitehawks, who had taken a 2-1 lead. Frederick Larochelle made 24 saves for the win.

Cole Senum’s first goal coming on the power-play gave the Storm a 3-1 lead en route to a 4-2 win against the Eagles to extend their series to a sixth game. The Eagles opened the scoring on Daniel Kroon’s third goal. Ryan Larsen had three assists for the Storm and Peyton Kelly scored twice, including the 4-2 goal, his third of the playoffs. Colton Phillips-Watts made 22 saves for the Storm. Gage Reimer made 28 saves for the Eagles.

North Okanagan Knights Osoyoos Coyotes
Rhett Harkot came in relief of Osoyoos Coyotes teammate Kenny Gerow to make 17 saves on 19 shots in their loss.

Walters lead North Okanagan to victory against Osoyoos (North Okanagan wins series 4-1)

The Knights opened the scoring 1:37 into the game on a goal by Collin Kozijn and never looked back as they defeated the Coyotes 5-3 to win their series and advance to the Bill Ohlhausen Division Final. Kevin-Thomas Walters led the Knights with two goals, including the winner on his fourth of the playoffs. Matthew Johnston had two assists for the Knights and Tyler Badger had a goal and an assist. Goalie Austin Seibel made 39 saves for the win. Jack Henderson led the Coyotes with three assists, and Carter Yarish scored twice.

Grand Forks Border Bruins Creston Valley Thunder Cats
Home ice gives Creston Valley edge on Grand Forks again (Creston Valley leads 3-1)

Stavros Koutsantonis scored the third straight goal for the Thunder Cats to lead them past the Border Bruins 3-2. Koutsantonis’ first of the post-season has the Thunder Cats one win away from playing in the Neil Murdoch Division Final. 

The Border Bruins took advantage of their power-play to open the scoring on Spencer Horning’s third goal. Down 3-1, the Border Bruins scored their second power-play goal by Matteus Reis with his fifth. Parker Forrest earned his second straight win with a 24-save effort. In two games, Forrest has stopped 57 of 60 shots for a .950 save percentage and a 1.50 GAA.

Kade Leskosky’s first of the Teck Cup championships was big, scoring at 3:35 on the power-play in overtime to give the Dynamiters a 3-2 win. After a scoreless first period, the Dynamiters took a 2-0 lead into the third on goals from Kasey Miller, his first on the power-play and Jayden Kostiuk, his third. Matt Fleet made 40 saves to put the Dynamiters within a game of advancing to the Eddie Mountain Division Final. Kylow Monkman with his second and Zac Siudy his first, scored for the Rockets.

Nelson Leafs Beaver Valley Nitehawks
Tritt leads Beaver Valley in OT over Nelson (Beaver Valley leads 3-1)

Gavin Tritt’s first goal gave the Nitehawks a 4-3 overtime win and one away from advancing to the Neil Murdoch Division Final. Ollie Clement led the Nitehawks with three points, with Joel Smyth and Nathan Dominici with two. Dominici had two goals, his second forcing overtime. Connor Stojan had a 50-save performance and Nelson’s Jasper Tait finished with 47 saves.

Osoyoos Coyotes North Okanagan Knights
MacLean leads Osoyoos over North Okanagan in OT (North Okanagan leads 3-1)

Reese MacLean’s first of the playoffs kept the Coyotes alive for another game as they staved off elimination, defeating the Knights 7-6 in overtime. The Coyotes trailed 6-4 with less than two minutes remaining when Coletyn Boyarksi scored his fourth of the game and Payton McDonald-Corea forced overtime with his first. Boyarski led the Coyotes with five points and Joe Davidson had three. Goalie Kenny Gerow made 25 saves for the win. Matthew Johnston led the Knights with four points, followed by Kevin-Thomas Walters and Devin Jameson with three each.That line combined for nine points.

Revelstoke Grizzlies 100 Mile House Wranglers
Wallace scores winner as Revelstoke defeats 100 Mile House (Revelstoke wins series 4-0)

Jake Wallace’s third goal of the playoffs gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead en route to a 6-1 victory. Carson Reinson collected two assists for the Grizzlies, including the second one on Wallace’s winner. Owen Chamberland, Carter Bettenson and Kaleb West each had a goal and an assist for the Grizzlies. Jack Mulder scored the lone goal for the Wranglers, who managed just 11 shots on Owen Albers. Six of those came in the first period. The Grizzlies now advance to the Doug Birks Division Final.

Princeton Posse Summerland Steam
Garcha paces Princeton past Summerland (Princeton wins series 4-0)

Kent Moors gave the Summerland Steam a 1-0 lead with his second goal, then the Posse responded with four unanswered goals thanks to Anmol Garcha in a 4-1 victory. Garcha had two goals, including the winner, and two assists – one on Kassius Kler’s first and Tyson Horiachka’s fourth. Nate Glenn stopped 38 of 39 shots. Rogan Bacon stopped 30 of 33 shots, then was replaced by Ben Wilson who saved seven of eight. The Posse will now play in the Bill Ohlhausen Division Final.

Kimberley Dynamiters Golden Rockets
Power-play powers Kimberley to victory over Golden (Kimberley leads 2-1)

Jordan Lario scored 41 seconds into the game for the Rockets and then it was all Dynamiters. They scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 victory. The Dynamiters used their power-play, going 2-for-4 to win as Jake Watson tied the game with his first of the playoffs and Tristan Weill scored the winner with his first. Cam Reid scored an empty net goal with a second remaining in regulation. Dynamiters goalie Matt Fleet made 19 saves, while Levi Hall turned aside 34.

Nikolai Morrison’s first of the playoffs on the power-play gave the Thunder Cats a 2-1 victory against the Border Bruins. The Thunder Cats opened the scoring in the second period on Reece Nelson’s second of the playoffs assisted by Hassen Himour. Spencer Horning tied the game for the Border Bruins with his second goal. Parker Forrest made 33 saves for the win, Ethan Shebansky turned asidee 53 for Grand Forks.

Kisinger’s OT goal gives Fernie big win over Columbia Valley (Ghostriders lead 3-1)

The Ghostriders have a chance to advance to the second round thanks to a 3-2 overtime victory against the Rockies. Reed Sparrow and Kayde Kinaschuk scored to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead, but the Ghostriders began to chip away starting with Jack Lambert’s third goal with 5:06 remaining in the second period. Taylor Haggerty then forced overtime when he tied the game with just over two minutes remaining in the third period. Ethan MacDuff and Haggerty set up Kort Kisinger in OT to score his second goal at 2:23. MacDuff finished with two assists. Aiden Kruhlak made 35 saves while Ewan McDevitt stopped 32. Anthony Domina had two assists for the Rockies.

Smyth, McLean score twice as Beaver Valley defeats Nelson (Beaver Valley leads 2-1)

Nathan Dominici netted the winner on the power-play for the Nitehawks as they defeated the Leafs 7-3. Ethan Smyth and Austin McLean each had two goals for the Nitehawks and Lucas Gartner collected three assists, one on the first goal and another on the insurance tally. One of McLean’s goals was short-handed into an empty cage. Connor Stojan stopped 34 of 37 for Beaver Valley while Frederick Larochelle stopped 42 of 48 shots. Leighton Partington and Drake Proctor scored their first goals for the Leafs and Crae Dawson scored his second.

Gallo nets winner for Revelstoke against 100 Mile House (Revelstoke leads 3-0)

The Grizzlies are a win away from advancing to the second round after defeating the Wranglers 3-1. Austin Wooley opened the scoring for the Grizzlies with less than two minutes remaining in the second period. Brandon Gallo scored the winner 47 seconds into the third period with his first and Ethan Mattern set up Luke Aston for the third Grizzlies goal. Jozef Kuchaslo made 14 saves for his third win. Royce Watson stopped 34 for the Wranglers, whose lone goal was by Ethan Sanders on the power-play.

The Eagles are on the verge of advancing to the second round after Brett Joseph’s first goal won them a 5-4 win against the Storm. Aiden Kalin led the Eagles with two goals and an assist. Kalin scored the opening goal, then gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The Eagles had led 4-1 six minutes into the second period. Gage Reimer finished with 23 saves for the Eagles. Colton Phillips-Watts stopped 30 of 35 shots. Branden Toye led the Storm with two goals.

Princeton Posse Summerland Steam
Horiachka nets OT winner for Princeton against Summerland (Princeton leads 3-0)

With 3:05 remaining in overtime, Tyson Horiachka tipped Kassius Kler’s shot past Rogan Bacon to give the Posse a 2-1 win over the Steam. After a scoreless first period, the Steam opened the scoring on Luke Rothfos’ third goal setup by Kent Moors and Austin Cameron with 3:12 remaining in the second period. The Posse tied the game in the third on a goal by Brennan Watterson. Peyton Trzaska made 39 saves for the Posse and Bacon finished with 47 for the Steam. The Posse will have a chance to clinch the series in Summerland tomorrow.

Tisdale nets winner for Sicamous in win over Kamloops (Sicamous leads series 2-1)

Reid Tisdale scored his third of the Teck Cup playoffs, and the winner as the Eagles defeated the Storm 5-2. Warren Roberts-Lee opened the scoring and added the insurance marker on the power-play to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead. Gage Reimer made 35 for the Eagles, while Colton Phillips-Watts turned aside 34. Peyton Kelly and Branden Toye each scored their first for the Storm.

Fernie’s Sigouin nets winner against Columbia Valley (Fernie leads series 2-0)

After giving up the opening goal to Rockies’ Kobe Mason at 2:52 of the second period, the Ghostriders scored four unanswered goals to win 5-2. Jarod Sigouin scored the eventual winner on a set up by Scott Sinclair, who led the Ghostriders with two points, both assists. Aiden Kruhlak made 34 saves for the win, while Brett Sweet made 30 saves. Lucas De La  scored the Rockies’ other goal. The Ghostriders went 2-for-6 on the power-play with the second one being an insurance tally by Andrew Karam, his first of the playoffs.

Osoyoos Coyotes North Okanagan Knights
Badger leads North Okanagan in win over Osoyoos (North Okanagan leads series 3-0)

A four-goal third period by the Knights gave them a 7-4 win against the Coyotes, thanks to a three-goal performance by Tyler Badger. The Knights also capitalized on special teams as Badger’s winner came on the power-play and Matthew Johnston scored two short-handed goals, one into an empty net. He also added an assist, while Austin Seibel made 29 saves and assisted on Colton Fleming’s goal to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. Coletyn Boyarski and Jack Henderson each scored twice for the Coyotes, who led 2-0 after the first period.The Coyotes went 2-for-6 on the power-play and Rhett Harkot finished with 40 saves.

The Knights will have their first chance to win the series on Wednesday.

Fiorentino wins it for Rockets against Dynamiters (Series tied 1-1)

Dominic Fiorentino was the OT hero for the Rockets as they defeated the Dynamiters 3-2. The Rockets erased a 2-0 Dynamiters lead built on goals by Jayden Kostiiuk and Campbell McLean, who each scored their second goals of the playoffs. Austin Angus and Kylow Monkman scored to get the Rockets back to even. Levi Hall made 26 saves for the win, while Matt Fleet turned aside 32 shots.

De La Salle leads Columbia Valley past Fernie (Series tied 1-1)

Lucas De La Salle’s first of the playoffs helped the Rockies defeat the Ghostriders 4-2, while Ewan McDevitt made 15 saves. Keenan Ingram and Anthony Domina led the Rockies with two points each. Aiden Kruhlak made 27 saves for the Ghostiders, while Jack Lambert scored his second of the playoffs and Scott Sinclair his first.

Reis nets hat-trick as Grand Forks defeats Creston Valley (Series tied 1-1)

Russell Kosec scored his first of the playoffs and gave the Border Bruins a 4-2 lead in an eventual 7-3 win over the Thunder Cats. Matteus Reis led the Border Bruins with three goals, while Ray Warrack and Spencer Horning each had three points, while Goalie Ethan Shebansky made 31 saves. The Border Bruins built a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of power-play goals. Blake Anderson led the Thunder Cats with two goals and Jacob Burnside stopped 33 of 40 shots.

Beaver Valley Nitehawks Nelson Leafs
Smyth helps lead Beaver Valley over Nelson (Series tied 1-1)

Connor Stojan stopped 29 shots and Ollie Clement scored the winner short-handed to lead the Nitehawks to a 6-3 victory over the Leafs. Joel Smyth led the Nitehawks with three assists and six players scored. Jasper Tait made 25 saves in the loss with Ryan Quast and Tyson Lautard, with his second, scoring for the Leafs.

Bablitz shines for Princeton in win over Summerland (Princeton leads series 2-0)

Brayden Bablitz had a goal and three assists, while Ty Russell netted the winner in a 7-2 win for the Posse against the Steam. The Posse scored two power-play goals, the first by Dayton Nelson to give the Posse a 1-0 lead and the second by Russell. Nelson led the Posse with a hat-trick and has four goals in the playoffs. Nate Glenn stopped 28 shots for the Posse, while Ben Lewis stopped 32 of 38, then was replaced by Rogan Bacon, who stopped 17 of 18. Luke Rothfos scored his second of the playoffs for the Steam, while Kent Moors got his first.

Jozef Kuchaslo earned his second straight shutout for the Grizzlies, this time stopping 23 shots in a 4-0 win over the Wranglers. Jake Wallace opened the scoring with his first of the playoffs, then got his second of the game, short-handed, to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. Royce Watson stopped 57 shots for the Wranglers, including 40 in the final two periods.

Gage Reimer was named the first star as he stopped 28 shots to lead the Eagles to a 6-2 victory over the Storm. Tyler Burke netted the winner on the power-play, while Reid Tisdale scored twice and Colton Schmidt had two assists. Harrison Ewert and Devin Benson scored for the Storm, while Colton Phillips-Watts made 18 saves.

North Okanagan Knights Osoyoos Coyotes
Johnston leads North Okanagan to victory over Osoyoos (North Okanagan leads series 2-0)

Matthew Johnston’s first of three goals for the Knights was the winner in a 6-1 final against the Coyotes. Kevin-Thomas Walters assisted on all of Johnston’s goals and opened the scoring for a four-point performance. Austin Seibel made 37 saves to earn his second win of the playoffs. Coletyn Boyarki scored for the Coyotes, while Rhett Harkot finished with 42 saves.


The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League started its first round of the Teck Cup playoffs on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023. The opening day provided great action for fans around the league including a couple of overtime games. Below are summaries of each.

 

Dynamiters take Game 1 against Rockets, Furukawa gets two points (Dynamiters lead Rockets 1-0)

Nick Morin opened the scoring for the Golden Rockets, but it was the Kimberley Dynamiters earning a 4-2 victory as Connor Furukawa netted the winning goal late in the second period and added an assist. Justin Sommer collected two assists for the Dynamiters and Matt Fleet stopped 25 of 27 shots for the win, while the Rockets also got a goal by Kade Cochlan and Levi Hall made 37 saves.

 

Fernie is victorious in OT against Columbia Valley, Lambert nets winner (Fernie leads series 1-0)

Jack Lambert scored his first goal of the playoffs at 6:07 of overtime to give the Fernie Ghostriders a 2-1 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies. Reed Sparrow scored the lone Rockies goal as Aiden Kruhlak made 32 saves for the Ghostriders. Ewan McDevitt made 20 saves for the Rockies.

 

Creston Valley defeats Grand Forks as Chakrabarti gets three points (Creston Valley leads series 1-0)

Nikolai Morrison and Luke Chakrabarti set up Blake Anderson to open the scoring against the Border Bruins 1:32 into the first period. Chakrabarti had three points, including the winning goal, as the Thunder Cats defeated the Border Bruins 3-2 on a night they raised their regular season division championship banner to the rafters in front of a crowd of 563. Jacob Burnside made 41 saves for the Thunder Cats, while Jonah Smith and Matteus Reis scored for the Border Bruins. Ewan Soutar made 37 saves.

 

Nelson defeats Beaver Valley in overtime, Lautard nets winner (Nelson takes 1-0 series lead)

Seamus Boyd setup Tyson Lautard to be the overtime hero as his shot from the point beat Beaver Valley Nitehawks goalie Connor Stojan at 4:23 for a 5-4 victory. The Leafs led 2-1 after one period and 4-3 after two. Boyd, Lautard and Johnny Carmichael each had two points, while Frederick Larochelle made 24 saves. Boris Hristov had two goals for the Nitehawks, while Nate Dominici had two points as well as Kaleb Percival and Joel Smyth. Stojan finished with 32 saves.

 

Princeton defeats Summerland, takes 1-0 series lead

Tyson Horiachka scored the winning goal for the Princeton Posse in a 5-4 final against the Summerland Steam. Dayton Nelson led the Posse with three points, while Horiachka had two, as did Lucas Sadownyk, who opened the scoring. Peyton Trzaska made 23 saves for the win, while Ben Lewis made 40 for the Steam, who got goals by Jacob Rausch, Keenan Conn, Cassidy Hank and Luke Rothfos.

 

Revelstoke, Kuchaslo shutout 100 Mile House to take 1-0 series lead

Colton McLeod netted the winner 8:35 into the first period, while Jozef Kuchaslo made 13 saves to earn his first career playoff shutout in a 6-0 final over the Wranglers. McLeod added another goal, while Will McPhee, David Coyle and Porter Trevelyan each had three points. Horner’s two goals helps Kamloops defeat Sicamous to take 1-0 series lead

Ty Horner led the Storm with two goals, while Ryan Larsen scored the winner as they defeated the Eagles 6-3 for a Game 1 victory. Larsen also had two points, along with Peyton Kelly and Devin Benson. Colton Phillips-Watts made 29 saves for the win, while Gage Reimer stopped 31 for the Eagles. Aiden Kalin, Warren Roberts-Lee and Daniel Kroon scored for the Eagles.

 

Bourgeois nets two helping North Okanagan defeat Osoyoos for 1-0 series lead

Collin Kozijn scored the winner for the Knights in a 5-3 final against the Coyotes in Game 1. Adam Bourgeois had two goals, while Devin Jameson and Carson Devine also scored. Austin Seibel made 31 saves for the Knights, while Kenny Gerow made 10 saves on 13 shots and was replaced by Rhett Harkot who made 24 saves on 26 shots. The Coyotes got goals from Coletyn Boyarski, Hunter Harwood and Ethan Floris.
