Grizzlies win Teck Cup Championship

The Revelstoke Grizzlies have defended their KIJHL Teck Cup Championship by defeating the Nelson Leafs 6-4, winning the series in five games. 

Ronin Pusch’s seventh goal of the playoffs 6:33 into the third on the power-play won the Teck Cup championship. 

Entering the third period trailing 4-3, the Grizzlies made a goalie change replacing Brandon Weare, who allowed four goals on 25 shots, with Jozef Kuchaslo. Kuchaslo stopped all 14 shots he faced. Tyden McWillis tied the game at four 1:57 into the period, while Pusch and Brandon Kasdorf scored to secure the win. The Grizzlies’ last two goals were scored on the power-play, which went 4-for-5.

Simon Nemethy led the Leafs with two goals, while Joe Davidson had a goal and two assists. Dylan Marshall stopped 25 of 31 shots. Kaleb West led the Grizzlies with two goals. Brandon Gallo and Ronin Pusch assisted on the last two Grizzlies goals. 

The Leafs opened the scoring 1:27 into the first on a goal by Liam Noble. West then tied the game at one, with just over three minutes remaining in the first period. The teams continued trading goals in the third period, then the Leafs headed into the second intermission with a 4-3 lead on a goal by Joe Davidson.

Weare, McPhee leads Grizzlies to big triple OT win

Will McPhee scored with five minutes remaining in triple overtime to give the Revelstoke Grizzlies a 4-3 win, and a 3-1 series lead in the Teck Cup Championship.

The Grizzlies got tremendous goaltending by Brandon Weare, who finished with 49 saves, including 35 from the third period on. He made 21 saves in the overtime periods.

 

Kaleb West opened the scoring for the Grizzlies on the power-play, which they went 2-for-6 on. Johnny Carmichael tied the score at one in the second period. The Leafs headed into the second intermission with a 3-2 lead thanks to power-play goals by Liam Noble and Bryce Sookro. Grizzlies captain Cole Berg tied the game at three in the third period. McPhee and West led the Grizzlies with a goal and assist each. Dylan Marshall made 37 saves for the Leafs, who received a goal and an assist from Noble, Carmichael and Sookro. Simon Nemethy had two assists. Game 5 returns to Revelstoke Thursday where the Grizzlies will have a chance to win the KIJHL Championship, which they won in 2018-19.

Bryden Pow-ers Leafs past Grizzlies

Bryden Pow led the Nelson Leafs to a 2-1 victory over the Revelstoke Grizzlies in Game 3 of the Teck Cup Championship. The Grizzlies lead in the series is now cut to 2-1. Bennett Anklewich gave the Leafs a 1-0 lead 3:14 into the second period when he banged home a rebound with Marko Pavlovic and Pow collecting assists. Carter Bettenson got the Grizzlies even at one with his fourth goal scored on the power-play as he cashed in on a rebound. Pow’s winner came with under six minutes remaining in the second period on a broken play as he fired a wrist shot top shelf past Brandon Weare, who made 23 saves. Dylan Marshall made 20 saves, including 12 in the third period.

Kasdorf nets winner for Grizzlies

Cole Berg and Brandon Kasdorf scored for the Revelstoke Grizzlies in a 2-1 win over the Nelson Leafs to take a 2-0 lead in the Teck Cup Championship. Berg, the Grizzlies captain, opened the scoring at the midway mark of the first with his fifth goal. Kasdorf gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead in the second period with his sixth of the playoffs, coming on the power-play. At 8:56 of the third, Bryden Pow got the Leafs on the board with his fifth of the playoffs. Brandon Weare made 26 saves for the win, while Dylan Marshall finished with 31 saves. The series now shifts to Nelson for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday.

 

 

Grizzlies take opening game of the Teck Cup championship

Brandon Weare made 50 saves for the Revelstoke Grizzlies in a 4-3 win against the Nelson Leafs to take Game 1 of the KIJHL Teck Cup Championship at home.

The Leafs got off to a strong start, scoring 14 seconds into the game on a goal by Simon Nemethy, his sixth goal. He would score his second of the night 47 seconds into the second period. Four minutes after the Leafs took the 1-0 lead, the Grizzlies evened the score on a goal by Carter Bettenson, who was set up on the power-play by Jacob Smith and Will McPhee. The Grizzlies power-play went 3-for-5 with the other goals on the man advantage coming from Luke Aston and Brandon Kasdorf, making it 4-2, with his fifth of the playoffs. Kasdorf’s goal was the eventual winner as Joe Davidson scored on the power-play to bring the Leafs to within a goal. Dylan Marshall finished with 22 saves for the Leafs.
