KIJHL season-opening second day action

 

Today is the second day of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s 2022-23 regular season opening weekend.

The Kimberley Dynamiters welcome the Creston Valley Thunder Cats to the Kimberley Civic Centre. Last season the Dynamiters won all eight games against the Thunder Cats. 

The Golden Rockets play their second straight home game this weekend, this time hosting the defending KIJHL champion Revelstoke Grizzlies at the “Plywood Palace.” The two teams did not meet in KIJHL action last season.

The Fernie Ghostriders welcome the Columbia Valley Rockies to the Fernie Memorial Arena. Last season the Rockies won six of their eight divisional games. Both teams also met in the opening round of the Teck Cup playoffs with the Rockies winning the series in six games.

The Sicamous Eagles are playing their second straight home game, this time welcoming the 100 Mile House Wranglers. The Wranglers won four of their eight divisional meetings, but the Eagles advanced to the Teck Cup playoffs by finishing seven points ahead.

The Chase Heat welcome the Kamloops Storm to the Art Holding Memorial Arena. The Storm won their regular season series, taking four of the eight games. The two then faced each other in the Teck Cup playoffs, with the Storm winning the seven-game battle.

The Kelowna Chiefs host the Summerland Steam at the Rutland Arena. The Chiefs won five of their eight divisional games, then met in the opening round of the Teck Cup playoffs with the Steam winning in five games. 

The Castlegar Rebels host the Princeton Posse at the Castlegar & District Recreation Centre. The two teams did not face each other last season.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks host the Osoyoos Coyotes at the Beaver Valley Arena in Fruitvale. The teams did not face each other last season.

The Grand Forks Border Bruins play their second straight home game, this time hosting the Nelson Leafs. The Leafs won all 10 of their divisional games against the Border Bruins last season.
