Leafs clinch series against Dynamiters in double OT

Bryce Sookro had two points, including the biggest assist of his season with the Nelson Leafs as he teed up teammate Liam Noble for the game-winning goal in double overtime to defeat the Kimberley Dynamiters 2-1. Noble hammered a shot past Dynamiters goalie Trystan Self 3:46 into the period for his sixth of the playoffs that punched the Leafs’ ticket to the KIJHL Teck Cup Championship against the Revelstoke Grizzlies, starting Friday.

The Leafs struck first following two scoreless periods on a goal by Sookro, his fifth. Fighting to avoid being knocked out, the Dynamiters tied the game at one on a goal by Tyler Russell, his fifth with under five minutes remaining in the third. Self finished with 46 saves, while Dylan Marshall made 21 for the Leafs.

Pisiak net hat-trick in Leafs comeback win

Tyler Pisiak netted a hat-trick, and played overtime hero scoring the winner as the Nelson Leafs completed a comeback to win 4-3 in overtime over the Kimberley Dynamiters. They erased a 3-1 Dynamiters lead late in the third period led by defenceman Bryce Sookro who set up Joe Davidson and Pisiak’s goals. The Leafs fired 18 shots at Dynamiters goalie Trystan Self, who allowed two goals in the third period and finished with 34 saves, while Dylan Marshall made 24 saves for the Leafs.  The Leafs now lead the series 3-2 and return home for Game 6 with a chance to punch their ticket to the KIJHL Teck Cup championship against the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

Sookro, Marshall lead Leafs to win

Dylan Marshall stopped all 24 shots he faced for the Nelson Leafs in a 2-0 win over the Kimberley Dynamiters. With the win, the Kootenay Conference final is now a best-of-three series. Bryce Sookro, the Rookie of the Year and Top Defenceman for the Neil Murdoch Division, scored the winning goal 52 seconds into the game. Drake Proctor, an affiliate player from the Okanagan Rockets U18 team, scored the Leafs’ second goal. Trystan Self made 21 saves in the loss.

 

Bettenson nets winner for Grizzlies in sweep of Coyotes

Carter Bettenson’s second goal gave the Revelstoke Grizzlies a 3-2 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes to sweep their series. Bettenson’s goal came five minutes into the third period. The Coyotes opened the scoring on a power-play goal by Alex Ochitwa in the first period. The Grizzlies then struck for two straight goals in the second period from Owen Chamberland and captain Cole Berg. Jack Henderson, the KIJHL’s top point producer, tied the game with two minutes left in the second period. Grizzlies goalie Brandon Weare made 39 saves for the second straight game to earn the win. Kenny Gerow made 32 saves in the loss. The Grizzlies, defending KIJHL champs, have advanced to the Teck Cup Championship.

Weare leads Grizzlies to victory

Brandon Weare made 39 saves, including 31 in the first two periods, to lead the Revelstoke Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes. Brady Augot’s fourth goal of the playoffs proved to be the winner as the defending KIJHL champions lead the Okanagan Conference series 3-0. The Grizzlies opened the scoring in the first period on the power-play on a goal by their captain Cole Berg with his third. Blake Astorino scored his second goal for the Coyotes, while Jacob Smith secured the victory with his fourth of the postseason.

 

Pow scores twice in Leafs win

Simon Nemethy scored the winning goal for the Nelson Leafs giving them a 2-0 lead on the Kimberley Dynamiters en route to a 4-1 victory. The win cuts the Dynamiters series lead to 2-1. Bryden Pow led the Leafs with two goals, while Dylan Marshall made 26 saves for the win. Austin Daniels scored the lone Dynamiters goal to make it 3-1, his 10th of the playoffs. Rhett Hamilton led the Leafs with three assists

Big third period leads Dynamiters in win

Tenzin Bogardis gave the Kimberley Dynamiters a 2-1 lead early into the third period against the Nelson Leafs. His first of the Teck Cup Championships held up as the winner in a 4-1 final, giving the Dynamiters a 2-0 series lead in the Kootenay Conference final. Christian Mealey opened the scoring in the first period with his 10th goal, which ties him for the league lead. Bryden Pow scored his second for the Leafs eight seconds into the second period. Bogardis’ goal was the first of three third period tallies for the Dynamiters as Cash Regan added insurance on the power-play and captain Ryan Bennett made it 4-1. Trystan Self made 29 saves in the win. Dylan Marshall stopped the four shots he faced after coming in relief of Tenzin Mint, who allowed four goals on 25 shots.

 

 

Weare stops 31 in Grizzlies win

Ronin Pusch scored his sixth goal to make it 3-1 for the Revelstoke Grizzlies against the Osoyoos Coyotes. His goal proved to be the winner in a 3-2 final, giving the Grizzlies a 2-0 series lead in the Okanagan Conference Final. Following a scoreless first period, Porter Trevelyan put the visitors on top with his first goal. In the third period, Blake Astorino’s first goal tied the game for the Coyotes, but Brady Augot put the Grizzlies back on top with his third goal. Zachary Park scored his seventh on the power-play for the Coyotes. Brandon Weare made 31 saves for the win.

 

 

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League started its third round of the Teck Cup Championship with the Nelson Leafs and Kimberley Dynamiters battling for the Kootenay Conference championship, while the Revelstoke Grizzlies take on the President’s Trophy winning Osoyoos Coyotes for the Okanagan Conference title. Below are shot summaries of each game.

Regan nets winner in Dynamiters victory

Cash Regan scored the game-winning goal in the third period for the Kimberley Dynamiters in a 2-1 final against the Nelson Leafs, taking Game 1 of the Kootenay Conference Final.

After a scoreless first period, the Dynamiters opened the scoring on a short-handed goal by Austin Daniels, his ninth of the playoffs assisted by Jaden Kostiuk. Just over two minutes later, the Leafs evened the score on a goal by Bryden Pow, his first. Trystan Self made 23 saves for the win, while Tenzin Mint made 22 saves.

 

Grizzlies win using special teams

Osoyoos Coyotes goalie Kenneth Marquart keeps his eye on the puck during their series against the Summerland Steam. Marquart and the Coyotes lost the opening game of their third round series to the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies scored three goals in the first period en route to a 5-1 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes to take Game 1 of the Okanagan Conference Final. The Grizzlies led 3-1 after the first on goals by Brady Augot and Ronin Pusch, on the power-play, while Jacob Smith scored short-handed. The Coyotes lone goal came on the power-play by Jack Henderson, his seventh. 

Pusch’s first of two goals finished as the winner. Brandon Weare made 21 saves for the win, while Kenneth Marquart allowed five goals on 17 shots before being replaced by Kenny Gerow, who stopped all 13 shots he faced.
