KIJHL 3 Stars of the Month: December

Ethan McKinley of the Osoyoos Coyotes, Cam Reid of the Kimberley Dynamiters and Dylan Marshall of the Nelson Leafs have been named the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s 3 Stars of the Month for December.

McKinley – Top Forward – The St. Albert product had six goals and 18 points in nine games, including a game-winning goal. McKinley helped the Coyotes win eight of their nine games in December. The rookie had five multi-point games, including a five-point performance against the Summerland Steam on Dec. 18. Twice he scored two goals against 100 Mile House and Summerland. McKinley, 19, is fifth in the KIJHL with 10 goals and 34 points in 27 games, which leads all rookies. 

Reid – Top Defenceman – The hometown product had two goals and nine points in seven games for the Dynamiters. Reid helped the Dynamiters win five games during the month and enjoyed two-point performances against Golden on Dec. 4 and 7, and Fernie on Dec. 28. Since returning to the Dynamiters from the Cranbrook Bucks of the BCHL in late November, Reid has two goals and 10 points in 10 games, which has him second on the team in points for blueliners, but for points-per-game average, he is the top defenceman.

Marshall – Top Goalie –  The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan product won five of his seven games for the Leafs. The rookie stopped 155 of 165 shots for a .939 SP and a 1.42 goals against average with two shutouts ( 21 saves versus Castlegar and 23 against Creston Valley). In back-to-back wins against Beaver Valley, Marshall made 58 saves on 63 shots. In 17 games, Marshall has 12 wins, which ranks him second in the KIJHL, to go with a .921 SP (sixth) and a 1.86 GAA (third).
