Haggerty, Hughes and Phillips-Watts named Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week

 

 

Taylor Haggerty (Fernie Ghostriders), Nicholas Hughes (Sicamous Eagles) and Colton Phillips-Watts (Kamloops Storm) have been selected the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Jan. 8, 2023.

Haggerty – Top Forward – The Sherwood Park, Alberta product collected four goals and eight points in two games to help the Ghostriders win both their games against the Columbia Valley Rockies and the Castlegar Rebels. Against the Rockies, Haggerty had two goals, including one on the power-play, and an assist. Against the Rebels, the 6-0, 155-pound forward had two goals, including a short-handed tally, and three assists to help the Ghostriders earn a 9-3 win against the Rebels. Haggerty is third on the Ghostriders with 31 points in 32 games.

Hughes – Top Defenceman – The Calgary, Alberta product had a goal and two assists in three games to help the Eagles win their three games against the Princeton Posse and Kelowna Chiefs. Hughes registered an assist against the Posse, netted the winner against Kelowna, which also came while they were short-handed. In their second game against Kelowna, Hughes collected another assist. Hughes is fifth on the Eagles with 21 points in 26 games, and leads the team with 17 assists.

Phillips-Watts – Top Goalie – The Quesnel product won all three games he played in turning aside 95 of 97 shots for a 0.67 GAA and a .979 SP. Phillips-Watts stopped 39 of 40 against the Revelstoke Grizzlies, 31 of 32 against the Chase Heat, then shut out the Nelson Leafs with a 25-save effort. Phillips-Watts now has eight wins in 11 games with two shutouts, a 1.43 GAA and a .947 SP. It’s the second time Phillips-Watts has been named the Top Goalie.
