Hearing MVP chants in the Revelstoke Forum “was a pretty cool experience” for Grizzlies goalie Brandon Weare.
The Calgary native received the Commissioner’s Award as the KIJHL Teck Cup Championship MVP after he earned 14 wins in 18 games, to go with a 1.53 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. During the Teck Cup Championship, Weare won three games, as he stopped 169 of 182 shots for a .929 SP and a 2.33 GAA.
Weare said it was good to receive the MVP award.
“It showed the hard work I put in through the years in the KIJHL,” said Weare, who began his career in Golden in 2019-20. “I am more happy with the championship. I thought I was playing some good hockey for the team. They were playing great in front of me.”
In Games 1 and 4 of the Teck Cup, Weare made 99 saves on 105 shots.
“It’s a lot of shots. The one game went in triple overtime and it was a long game. The boys really battled through,” he said. “That was a crucial one for the series in my opinion. I’m happy we got that one. We had all the momentum coming back to the Forum. It’s a tough place to play if you’re on the opposite end.”
Happy to be Teck Cup champs, Weare said their job isn’t finished.
“We’re looking to bring home Cyclone (Taylor Cup),” he said.
