The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has announced Maddox Popke of the Revelstoke Grizzlies as its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 9.
In two games, the St. Albert, Alta., native had a goal and four assists while playing an average of 20:10 a game. He was +2. He had an assist in their 4-2 loss to Merritt, then in their 10-3 win over the Williams Lake Mustangs, Popke picked up the second assist on Dayton Abbott’s eventual winning goal. He had a goal and four points in that game.
“It’s an honour to get that award. I have to thank my teammates,” he says. “I was comfortable and my coaches believed in me. I fed off that and was able to think the game and slow it down, which helped me a lot.”
Popke has nine points in 13 KIJHL games, which is third among all Grizzlies defensemen.
