Sam Giangualano (Merritt Centennials), Landen Janz (100 Mile House Wranglers) and Riley Deck (Golden Rockets) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 10/24.
Giangualano – Top Forward – The Calgary, Alta., native scored four goals and added five assists in three games for the Centennials. The 5-9, 158-pound forward had a goal, short-handed, and an assist against the Nelson Leafs in a 7-3 win on Nov. 8. Against the Castlegar Rebels on Nov. 9, he scored the game-winning goal and an assist in their 6-2 win. On Nov. 10 against the Grand Forks Border Bruins, he had two goals, including the winner, and three assists in their 8-6 comeback win. Giangualano leads the Cents with 10 goals and is tied for the team lead with 19 points in 18 games. He ranks sixth amongst all KIJHL rookies in points.
Janz – Top Defenceman – The Lake Country, B.C. native had two goals and two assists for the Wranglers in two games, while averaging 27:30 of ice time. In their 4-3 win over the Princeton Posse on Nov. 9, Janz scored to give the Wranglers a 3-2 lead. In their 4-3 loss to the Chase Heat on Nov. 10, Janz had a goal and three points. He is third on the Wranglers with 18 points in 19 games this season, which ranks Janz third amongst all KIJHL blueliners.
Deck – Top Goalie – The Saskatoon, Sask., native had a win and an overtime loss in his two games for the Rockets. Against the Fernie Ghostriders on Nov. 8, Deck made 49 saves in a 3-2 win. He faced 40 shots in the second and third periods combined, allowing one goal. In a 2-1 overtime loss to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Nov. 9, the 6-1, 185-pound goalie made 25 saves. Over the two games, Deck had a 1.93 goals against average and a .949 save percentage. In 11 games this season, Deck has two wins with a 3.37 GAA and a .909 SP.
