Ghostriders’ Velker commits to BCIHL’s Vikes

Carter Velker of the Fernie Ghostriders has committed to play for the University of Victoria Vikes in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League next fall.

I’m extremely grateful to my billets, coaches, teammates and everyone in the organization for helping me develop into the player and person I am today, and I’m excited to take the next step at UVic,” said Velker.

Velker had 37 points (11-26) in 40 games with the Columbia Valley Rockies and Ghostriders. In 16 games with the Ghostriders following a trade, the Calgary native had four goals and 15 points. He then added eight points in 11 playoff games.

With Fernie, he learned more about consistency, hard work, and accountability.

“The coaching staff pushed me to improve and helped prepare me for the next level,” he said. “I learned about leadership and resilience.”

Velker improved his pace and ability to drive offence. He also became mentally stronger, confident and consistent.

In 126 career games (110 with the Rockies) he had 118 points (41-77). He played in 31 career playoff games and had 16 points.
