Each year, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League presents awards for on-ice excellence: Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player, Coach of the Year and the newly added General Manager of the Year. Winners are named from the four divisions prior to the start of KIJHL Playoffs, with overall league award winners to be announced at a later date.

Most Valuable Player Taylor Haggerty Fernie Ghostriders |
Not only was the Sherwood Park, Alta., native the best on his team, but the most valuable player in the Eddie Mountain Division. Over 43 games, Haggerty led with 30 goals and 63 points. He showed his all-around excellence with a +27 rating, contributed 17 primary assists, and played an average of 19:56 per game. He also won 59.76% of his faceoffs. He is a key figure in helping the Ghostriders finishing sixth overall in the KIJHL. | ![]() |

The Sherwood Park, Alta., native emerged as the top scorer in the Eddie Mountain Division, enjoying a second straight 60-plus point season. Over 43 games, Haggerty tallied 30 goals and 63 points, including eight game-winners and 19 power-play points. His performance not only led his team, but also placed him third among the KIJHL’s best. | ![]() |
Top Defenceman Eric Martin Fernie Ghostriders |
The Edmonton native dominated from the blueline, setting a new Ghostriders franchise record for points in a season by a defenceman. Leading all blueliners with 59 points in 43 games, he showcased his offensive abilities with 11 goals and 48 assists – his assists were second in the KIJHL. He’s the Ghostriders leader on defence and played a lot – averaging 25:46 of ice time per game. His vision and playmaking abilities were highlighted by 25 primary assists. On the power play, Martin was clutch, ranking fifth in both assists (14) and points (17). His +27 rating puts a spotlight on his two-way excellence. | ![]() |
Top Goaltender Brendan Smith Creston Valley Thunder Cats |
The Kelowna native gave the Thunder Cats a chance to win on most nights. He played the second most minutes of any goalie in the KIJHL and in 34 games, posted a 12-16-4 record with one shutout. On a Thunder Cats team that clinched a playoff spot near the end of the season, and had a .409 win percentage, he posted a respectable 3.11 goals-against average and an impressive .918 save percentage. He was second in total saves with 1,114. Smith made a few game-saving stops over the season, as evidenced by his 82.76 SP in the danger zone. | ![]() |
Rookie of the Year Luke Davies Kimberley Dynamiters |
The rookie from Calgary led the Dynamiters with 56 points in 41 games, while also leading all KIJHL rookies. He had the third highest points-per-game of 1.37, which trailed leader Asher Lucas of Williams Lake by .02. Davies led all rookies with 29 goals and had 15 power-play points. He played an average of 17:53 a game, including special teams, and had a +18 rating. | ![]() |
Most Sportsmanlike Player Peter Godley Columbia Valley Rockies |
The Calgary native was an impactful, offensive force for the Rockies as a rookie – second on the team with 40 points in 41 games – and played a very disciplined game. He spent four minutes in the penalty box. He played an average of 17:42 a game and was also used on special teams and strong in the faceoff circle, winning 56.69 per cent of his draws. | ![]() |

Stuart has guided the Dynamiters to an Eddie Mountain Division Regular Season Championship with a record of 32-9-3. Their last win, a 4-2 victory over the Golden Rockets, is the 275th in his KIJHL career. He’s coached 368 games. The Dynamiters had the sixth best power-play in the league at 21.9 per cent (40-for-183) and their penalty-kill was eighth best at 83.5 per cent (38-for-231). The Dynamiters had the league’s third best offence scoring 191 goals. Their leading scorer, rookie Luke Davies had 56 points in 41 games, which also led all KIJHL rookies. | ![]() |

In the first half of the season, the Dynamiters were 14-6-2. In the second half, they went 18-3-1 to finish the season 32-9-3 for fourth overall in the KIJHL. Stuart is always looking to make a move to better his team if the fit is right. Among the moves he made was adding forward Nate Tillmanns, Remy Spooner, Jake Briltz, Marcus Cyr, receiving future considerations for Riley Langille and Drew Cadenhead, and in late October adding goalie Josh Hager. Hager is 9-0 with a 2.32 goals against average and a .904 save percentage. Stuart has been very happy with Tillmanns, who has 10 points in 10 games.
Following the addition of Spooner, Stuart said this about the player in the KIJHL Notebook. “Remy has been a great addition. He is a great guy, he’s here for the right reasons and he’s shown he is a serious offensive threat in this league.” |
