Eagles’ Miller signs with new NCAA D3 Lions program

Aden Miller of the Sicamous Eagles has signed to play for the Albright College Lions in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III next season.

The Strathmore, Alta., native is in his third Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season and has a goal and seven assists in 40 games.

“I am excited by the confidence the coaching staff at Albright has shown in my play and look forward to demonstrating my abilities while contributing to the program,” said Miller. “The support, structure and development provided by the teams I have played with in the KIJHL played a major role in my growth as a player and person and were instrumental in helping me earn my commitment.”

Eagles head coach-general manager Derek Sweet-Coulter said Miller’s development has been evident.

“We are very proud of Aden. He is a solid shut-down defenceman who has made strides and improved his offensive side as well this season,” said Sweet-Coulter. “Most importantly, he is a tremendous person and a great teammate. We wish him all the best in his future.”

Miller began his KIJHL career in 2023-24 with the Summerland Steam. When the franchise relocated to Williams Lake, he continued with the Mustangs. He started this season in Williams Lake before being traded to the Eagles after one game.

This season, Miller improved his ability to read plays and identify the right moments to join the rush.

“I have also developed more confidence with the puck, keeping my head up and making quick, effective decisions under pressure,” he said. “The organization helped me develop these areas by providing clear structure and consistent feedback. The coaching staff emphasized situational awareness and decision-making, and through practice reps, video review and game play, I continued to build and refine my skills.”

In November, Albright College announced the addition of a men’s hockey program, which will begin play in the winter of 2026. The team will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
