Dynamiters’ Mealey signs with SJHL Mustangs

Christian Mealey of the Kimberley Dynamiters has signed to play for the Melfort Mustangs in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the 2022-23 season.

In his lone season with the Dynamiters in the KIJHL, Mealey, 19, was second on the team in points with 40 in 36 games. He added 10 goals and 18 points in 16 KIJHL Teck Cup playoff games. His regular season totals ranked him eighth among rookies, while in the playoffs he was third overall.

“Christian earned this commitment to Junior A by working extremely hard and buying into our team-first culture,” said Dynamiters Head Coach & GM Derek Stuart. “His game developed immensely throughout the season as he became one of the top rookies in the league. He is now prepared to jump into Junior A and contribute because he earned the opportunity to play important minutes at the junior level with us.”

The Calgary product praised the Dynamiters and KIJHL saying both were  “instrumental in my development this year in preparing me for the next step in my hockey journey.”

“I could not have done it without my coaches sharing their knowledge to improve my game and giving me an opportunity. Of course my teammates had a lot to do with me moving on too,” said Mealey, who joined the Dynamiters after playing four games with the Olds Grizzlys in the AJHL. “The Dynamiters program has a winning attitude and culture and everyone involved is on the same page.”
