JP Desabrais (Williams Lake Mustangs), Nathan Laforge (Kimberley Dynamiters) and Ryder Ponto (Revelstoke Grizzlies), have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 3/24.
Desabrais – Top Forward – The Red Earth Creek, Alta., product registered a goal and seven points in two games for the Mustangs. Against the Kelowna Chiefs on Nov.1, Desabrais scored a short-handed goal to tie the game 3-3 and collected three assists in the 9-5 win. In their 5-2 win over the Castlegar Rebels, Desabrais had another three assist game, including setting up the winning goal. In 15 games, Desabrais has 17 points, including seven assists and nine points in five games as a Mustang.
Laforge – Top Defenceman – The St. Albert, Alta., product had two goals and an assist in two games for the Dynamiters. In their 6-3 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies on Oct. 29, Laforge scored the Dynamiters’ first goal, then assisted on their sixth goal. Against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Nov. 2, Laforge scored the winning goal in a 3-0 final. In seven games, the rookie defenceman has two goals and five points.
Ponto – Top Goalie – The Beaumont, Alta. product earned his first shutout for the Grizzlies by stopping 33 shots in a 1-0 overtime win over the Merritt Centennials on Nov. 1. It’s his fourth career KIJHL shutout. Ponto is 7-2-0 in nine games with a 2.07 goals against average and a .934 save rate.
