Creston Valley Thunder Cats alum Max Chakrabarti is taking another step up in his hockey career.
The former Thunder Cat will begin his collegiate career in the National Collegiate Athletic Association division 1 with the Augustana University Vikings on Oct. 3.
Chakrabarti, 20, announced his commitment to the Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based program on July 30. The White Rock native spent two seasons in the KIJHL with the Thunder Cats and produced 75 points in 81 regular season games. He collected nine points in 17 playoff games.
The 6-3, 191-pound defenceman spent last season with the Weyburn Red Wings in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He was a standout putting up 50 points in 56 regular season games and earned the IKS Media Rookie of the Year award. Chakrabarti was also a finalist for the SJHL’s SuperU Defenceman of the Year award.
Chakrabarti is one of seven freshmen joining the Vikings roster of 27 – which is set to begin its third season.
