Border Bruins’ Reis signs with ACAC Voyageurs

Matteus Reis of the Grand Forks Border Bruins will play for the Portage College Voyageurs in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference in the fall.

“I’m super excited to be a Voyageur next season and to further my academic studies while pursuing my athletic goals,” said Reis, a Kelowna product who began his KIJHL career with North Okanagan, then played for Kelowna before joining Grand Forks. “I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunities presented to me through the works of my coach Dave Hnatiuk and the Border Bruins. I truly can’t say enough great things about the Border Bruins organization and the community of Grand Forks.”

Reis played in 100 KIJHL regular season and playoff games combined, recording 29 goals and 56 points. This season with the Border Bruins he set new career highs in games played (44), goals (12), assists (13) and points (25).

Since his arrival in Grand Forks, Hnatiuk said Reis was committed to giving himself a shot at playing college hockey.

“His skill and overall game has developed over the past two seasons making him a well-rounded player who can create offence, while being defensively and systematically responsible,” said Hnatiuk. “He puts in the work on-and off- the-ice, loves the game and it has been great seeing his development earn him this opportunity.”
