Ashton Angle (Sicamous Eagles), Alex Cordero (Merritt Centennials) and Tyson Endall (100 Mile House Wranglers) have been selected as this week’s Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Jan. 5/25.
Angle – Top Forward – The Lethbridge, Alta., native had a goal and nine assists in three games for the Eagles and was plus five. On Jan. 3, Angle collected four assists in their 7-6 win over Grand Forks, then assisted on the winning goal against Spokane (4-2 final) and Beaver Valley (6-2). The 5-9, 181-pound forward has 33 points in 26 games, which is second on the team.
Cordero – Top Defenceman – The Yellowknife, N.W.T. native had a goal and three assists in three games for the Centennials, and was plus three while playing 23 minutes a game. In their 9-2 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes on Dec. 31, Cordero collected two assists on special teams goals – one on a short-handed goal. On Jan. 4 against the Princeton Posse, the 5-11, 194-pound blueliner scored the game-winner in a 3-2 final and assisted on the opening goal. In 24 games, Cordero leads the Centennials blueline with 17 points. He came over from the Neepawa Titans in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in a trade on Oct. 4.
Endall – Top Goalie – The Chestermere, Alta., native won all three of his starts for the Wranglers, stopping 83 of 86 shots, for a 1.00 goals against average and a .965 save percentage. Endall earned a 22-save shutout in a 5-0 win over the Chase Heat on Jan. 1, then had a 34-save performance in a 3-2 win over the Kamloops Storm on Jan. 4. The 6-3, 225-pound goalie has eight wins in 13 games for the Wranglers with a 2.98 GAA and a .906 SP.
